About the program
The Long-term Care Home Assistant program prepares students with the fundamental concepts, skills, and competencies necessary to succeed in entry-level jobs within long-term care homes, retirement homes, and related healthcare settings. Through this fully online program, students can also have a first-hand college experience and the opportunity to explore further education and training opportunities.
Understanding the value of person-centered care, as well as the skills needed for Infection, Prevention, and Control (IPAC), food service, protective equipment, housekeeping, and laundry are key learning outcomes.
The program runs for 5 weeks with 12 hours of learning each week. Upon successful completion of the courses, students will earn their Long-term care Home Assistant micro-credential. Students enrolled in this program also have the option to opt for the Food Safety Training course, to obtain a Food Handlers certification.

Admission requirements
To apply for this program, you must be:
- an Ontario resident
- a Canadian citizen or permanent resident (some exceptions might apply)
- at least 19 years of age (some exceptions might apply)
- proficient in English (minimum CLB 6 or equivalent)
Important note: To participate in this program, students must have a reliable Internet connection and access to a device (laptop or desktop).
